BLI is located in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The Bay Language Institute was established in December 2005 in response to the worldwide demand for English training. It is located in Port Elizabeth in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province, an area defined by its mixed cultures, natural beauty and diverse wildlife. The area is rich in English settler history; Port Elizabeth stands on the landing site of the largest single immigration of English settlers to Africa. The Institute focuses primarily on English tuition. We offer general and business English courses, as well as courses aimed at equipping students to deal with the demands of academic English. The school prepares students for a variety of English exams such as IELTS, TOEFL and the Cambridge FCE certificate, and has just launched Aviation English for student pilots. To complement this, we provide our unique “travelling classroom” products (English Safaris) for foreign-based and expatriate students, as well as courses tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients. We also offer excellent value-for-money packages such as Golf and English, Diving and English and Surfing and English.
Bay Language Institute only employs language trainers whose mastery of their language is at mother-tongue level. They must have a tertiary language teaching qualification and/or business training and extensive language training experience. We currently employ one permanent and twelve freelance English teachers. Our director, Shaun Fitzhenry, has taught in the South African schools system, at kindergarten level in Taiwan, and has five years of experience in training and coaching business English skills in Germany. This includes a year as the Director of Studies at a Hamburg English school and two years as a Head of Department in the state education system in South Africa.
Bay Language Institute offers a variety of products. Since the Institute was originally conceived as an EFL / Language Travel organisation, our primary focus falls on this field. However, there is a need for language and business communication skills training in our own country, and we are constantly updating and refining our products to meet this need.

• General English/English for Academic Purposes courses for language travellers;
• Individual English tuition (one-on-one);
• English and Leisure Packages (English & Safari (customised tours incorporating English training for adults), English and Golf, English and Diving, English and Surfing;
• Preparation for IELTS, TOEFL (TOEFL iBT coming soon), IELTS and FCE, CAE and CPE;
• Business English courses designed to meet individual and corporate customers’ needs;
• Aviation English for student pilots;
• Part-time courses for foreign students at South African universities and schools, expatriates living in South Africa, and for South Africans using English as a second/third language;
• TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) training.
BLI is a member of the Port Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, EduSA, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and Eastern Cape Tourism. Bay Language Institute recently completed the foreign language training for volunteers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a contract awarded by the South African Department of Education. BLI has provided language training services to, amongst others, Volkswagen South Africa, Goodyear SA, Shamwari Private Game Reserve, the Eastern Cape Department of Education (FET Band), Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and private students from South Korea, the Netherlands, Brazil, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Cameroon, Gabon, Zimbabwe, Denmark, India, Nigeria, Belgium, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Venezuela and Turkey.
